(firmenpresse) - SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 10/30/13 -- Rural/Metro Corporation, a national provider of private ambulance and fire protection services in 21 states and nearly 700 communities, announced today an organizational realignment aimed at optimizing operational efficiency and positioning the Company for improved performance and long-term success.

Effective Wednesday, October 30, 2013, the Company is implementing a corporate restructuring that will standardize organizational structures, job titles and responsibilities across all of its markets. The enhanced organizational model will be more cost-effective, will ensure continuity and focus on Rural/Metro's critical business drivers -- Patient Care, Employee Care and Business Care -- and will foster the sharing of best practices across all business units. As part of its organizational realignment, the Company's workforce will be reduced by approximately 100 positions, or 1% of the total workforce.

"The positions we've eliminated are mainly corporate support positions that we believed were not integral to patient and customer care," said Mr. Bartos, Rural/Metro's President and CEO. "I have worked closely with our management team and local leaders to determine the optimal organizational model to deliver our valuable services. It's important to emphasize that we are not taking employees off of the ambulances or out of direct patient care roles. We developed this new structure with our front-line workers in mind, and we will now be better organized to support them every day and foster their personal and professional growth and development going forward."

"Additionally, as part of our revitalization effort, we have exited several unprofitable contracts in the greater Los Angeles market, which will result in further downsizing of approximately 90 positions. We've also made great progress in our financial restructuring, which we expect will reduce our debt and interest expenses by half, and have identified and are implementing significant operational initiatives that will save millions of dollars, all of which will position Rural/Metro for future success. Our team has not missed a beat and has done a terrific job focusing on the delivery of outstanding service and patient care while we reorganize our company. We are moving through this process quickly and successfully, and will emerge as a stronger and more profitable organization."

Bartos added, "The decision to right-size our workforce was not taken lightly, but it is a necessary step to enhance Rural/Metro's financial position and improve the Company's long-term prospects. We appreciate the contributions of all our dedicated and talented employees, and we will provide support to those affected during this transition period."

Rural/Metro Corporation is a leading national provider of 911-emergency and non-emergency interfacility ambulance services and private fire protection services, operating in 21 states and nearly 700 communities. For more information, visit the Company's website at .
