Biolatam attracts biotechnology risk capital funds managing a total of over 3 billion euros

bring together 25 companies in Bogotá

Madrid, 14 November 2013. The first edition of Biolatam, the biggest event for
global biotechnology with a focus on Latin America, which will take place in
Bogota (Colombia) on the 9th and 10th of December of this year, will be a key
meeting point for investors and entrepreneurs from across the life sciences.

For this event, Proexport Colombia, the Colombian government agency responsible
for the promotion of direct foreign investement into the country, has
facilitiated the attendance of international investement funds managing a total
of over 3 billion euros in portfolios centred around health and technology. So
far 14 investement funds have confirmed their attendance but the final number is
expected to rise to 25.

The investment funds whose attendance has been confirmed are Austral Capital
(Chile), Burrill Brasil Gestão de Recursos (Brazil), CRB INVERBIO S.A. SGECR
(Spain),  Inveready Biotech II SCR (Spain), Ventac Partners (US), Ysios Capital
Partners SGECR (Spain), ZFunction (US), Wellington Partners (UK), Forbion
Capital Partners (Netherlands), Flagship Ventures (US), Edrip (Edmond de
Rothschild Investment Partners), from France, Inversiones de Vanguardia
(Colombia), Velum Partners (Colombia) and the Red Nacional de Ángeles
Inversionistas (Colombia)  led by Fundación Bavaria.

Amongst the most important are Wellington, based in London, which manages four
funds comprising over 800 millon euros invested in 30 companies working in areas
such as medical technology, diagnosis, therapy and industrial biotechnology;
Flagship, from Boston, which manages 900 million euros for seed and early-stage




investments, with some later stage value investments. Its portfolio is made up
of 28 companies. Forbion, based in Amsterdam, manages four funds accounting for
over 450 million euros, has invested in companies working on late stage
preclinical / early stage clinical development programs. It has 27 companies in
its portfolio.

The Biolatam conference programme will include a especial Seminar, on the 9th of
December, which will be made up of three sessions focused on financing. The
first will be, Public Policy to support risk capital in biotechnology, the
second, What are investors searching for in Latin American Biotechnology and the
third seminar will be on Risk Capital specialised in Biotechnology; what
international investors experience. During the seminar, which will be presided
by the former Spanish minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia,
 successful case studies of PPP funds will be studied and cross-shareholdings
between Europe, the US and Latin America will be debated. The challenge of how
to attract big fortunes and business angels to the sector will also be covered.

During the first session speakers will include Consuelo Valverde, founder of
ZFunction (US); Felipe Camposano, General Partner de Austral Capital and
Presidente of the Chilean Association for Biotechnology (Chile) (ASEMBIO) and
representatives of iNNpulsa (Colombia) and the CDTI (Spain). During the second
session, which will be moderated by Ángel Santos, Director of Business
Development at CRB Inverbío SGECR (Spain), the speakers will include João Paulo
Poiares Baptista, Director General of Burrill Brasil Gestão de Recursos S.A.
(Brazil) and Santiago de Torres, President of Inveready Biotech II SCR (Spain).
The last session will be moderated by Joël Jean-Mairet, Managing Partner of
Ysios Capital Partners (Spain) and the confirmed speakers are Gilles Nobercourt,
Partner of Edmond de Rothschild (France); Sander Slootweg, Managing Partner of
Forbion Capital Partners (Netherlands); Ignacio Martinez, Partner of Flagship
Ventures (US-MA) and Arun R. Jayadev, Principal of Wellington Partners (UK).

among others) from all over the world but with particular interests in Latin
American countries.
