Heijmans to be responsible for integrated variable maintenance for Rijkswaterstaat Western Netherlands South
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
On behalf of Rijkswaterstaat Western Netherlands South, Heijmans is going to be
responsible for the variable maintenance of the road network, viaducts, bridges,
and tunnels in plot 1. The work will be carried out in various locations in the
western Netherlands, on the N3, N59, N915, A4, and A15, and two engineering
works over the Oude Maas river. The maintenance contract is part of the IVOD
programme (Integraal Variabel Onderhoud Droog, or 'integrated, variable,
maintenance, dry') by which Rijkswaterstaat is seeking to encourage innovative
maintenance solutions. The contract is for a period of one year, and has a value
of almost ?18 million for Heijmans.
The contract covers all maintenance activities aimed at repairing damage to
approximately one hundred viaducts, bridges, and tunnels, repairing inspection
vehicles, repairing and replacing asphalt, replacing expansion joints with
durable and silent versions, and carrying out repairs to concrete. The
restoration of asphalt damaged by frost also forms part of the contract. The
winning tender resulted from an integrated approach towards the requirements of
the commissioning party, and has led to an integrated plan by Heijmans.
Design & Construct
For maintenance work on the road network in its Western Netherlands South
region, Rijkswaterstaat has initiated its IVOD 2013-2014 variable maintenance
programme. Projects covered by the programme are awarded on the basis of the
Economically Most Advantageous Tender criteria in the form of a Design &
Construct contract, where the contractor bears integrated responsibility for the
design and its implementation. Attention is paid in particular to reducing CO2
emissions and to minimal disruption to traffic during the implementation and
application of proven solutions - this applies to both the product and the
working methods used.
