ARQUES continues positive operational development in first half year of
2010
- EBITDA at 38.2 million euro compared to -16.0 million euro last year
- EBIT at 1.3 million euro compared to -114.7 million euro last year
- All subsidiaries aiming for positive operating results in 2010
Munich, August 19, 2010. In the second quarter of 2010, ARQUES Industries
AG was able to continue the positive operational development evident in the
first quarter 2010. Due to the realignment of the investment portfolio in
2009, consolidated revenues at 524.6 million euro in the first half of 2010
are substantially below the previous year's value of 2,361.2 million euro,
whereas the earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation
(EBITDA) at 38.2 million euro clearly exceed the previous year's negative
value of -16.0 million euro. The earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT)
at 1.3 million euro is also substantially better than the previous year's
value of -114.7 million euro. Due to impairment losses in discontinued
operations with a value of 7.8 million euro, the net result is still
negative in the first half of 2010 at -8.1 million euro (previous year
-117.0 million euro). The net result in the continuing operations amounts
to 1.9 million euro. 'The operational measures introduced during the course
of 2009 are taking effect and are already showing pleasing results in the
first half of 2010. Particularly at our largest subsidiary, Gigaset, we can
see promising developments', said Hans Gisbert Ulmke, chairman of the
ARQUES Industries AG executive board. 'In addition, we sold two
successfully restructured companies, Fritz Berger and Golf House, in the
first half of 2010 at attractive multiples and with positive cash effects.
This again proves the restructuring expertise of ARQUES', Hans Gisbert
Ulmke added.
Scheduled debt reduction
Parallel to the business development, the balance sheet structure within
the group has also improved. Due to the scheduled payment of financial
debts and the strong decrease in trade payables, the equity ratio improved
slightly from 18.5 per cent to 18.9 per cent in the first half of 2010.
Profitable corporate development on stable basis
'Based on the positive development of our subsidiaries and the results
achieved in the first half of 2010, we expect further stabilization and
increased profitable corporate development in 2010. We expect positive
operating results for the financial year 2010', said Hans Gisbert Ulmke.
