CEO of the Freiburg solar company receives award from the audit firm BDO
and the business magazine 'impulse'
Freiburg, October 28, 2010. Dr. Karl Kuhlmann, CEO of S.A.G. Solarstrom AG
(German security identification number: 702 100, ISIN: DE0007021008) last
night received the award 'Turn-Arounder of the Year 2010' in Berlin. This
was the fifth time that the audit firm BDO and the business magazine
'impulse' issued this award to successful restructuring companies. The
prize honors the achievements of German companies whose management and
employees have managed to preserve the company and its jobs, despite a
difficult economic situation.
The prize, which is presented annually, is awarded to companies in three
size categories - up to 500, up to 1,000 and over 1,000 employees - who
have coped with developments that endangered the existence of their company
by implementing innovative and courageous steps. In addition to the trend
reversal to sustainable growth, the jury of top-class experts assessed, in
particular, the consistent implementation of the developed restructuring
concept.
Dr. Karl Kuhlmann was voted turn-arounder of the year in the category of up
to 500 employees. 'The jury was won over by how Dr. Karl Kuhlmann improved
risk management, professionalized Sales and focused the company
consistently on returns after the crisis', says Dr. Nikolaus Förster,
editor-in-chief of the business magazine 'impulse'.
Up to 2007, the company, with its high level of expertise, had achieved
strong but non-profitable growth. Instead, losses of millions had
accumulated. Dr. Karl Kuhlmann initially joined as an investor in 2007 and
later, as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, introduced a new, experienced
management. In 2008 he became CEO of the Executive Board, in order to
support the restructuring measures from an operational point of view. Since
2007, the company has been in the black and has created new jobs each year.
The distressed company has today become an internationally recognized,
profitable photovoltaic organization that continues to pursue its growth
course consistently and successfully and whose portfolio covers the entire
value chain, from yield reports to project planning, construction,
operations and monitoring, repowering and deconstruction.
Dr. Karl Kuhlmann accepted the prize for the company size of up to 500
employees. This year's prize winner in the category of up to 1000 employees
was Dr. Marc Schweizer, CEO of the Schweizer Electronic AG, and in the
category of over 1,000 employees the award went to Patrick Feller and
Karsten Oberheide, both Managing Directors of SinnLeffers GmbH.
The members of the jury of experts were Christian Dyckerhoff, director of
the audit firm BDO, Dr. Nikolaus Förster, editor-in-chief of 'impulse',
Martin Fischedick, Group Vice-President of Corporate Banking of the
Commerzbank AG, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Kirsch, Institute of Accounting and
Auditing of the Westphalian Wilhelm University Münster, Dr. Lutz
Mackebrandt, Vice-President of the German Association of Business
Consultants, BDU e.V., Albrecht von der Hagen, Managing Director of DIE
FAMILIENUNTERNEHMER-ASU e.V. and Dr. Matthias Wittstock, Head of
Department of SME Policy at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and
Technology.
'My thanks go to my colleagues on the Executive Board, Christoph Koch and
Oliver Günther, and to our employees. Only as a result of the concerted
efforts of all those involved was it possible to achieve the turnaround
within such a short time', says Dr. Karl Kuhlmann. 'And we still have many
plans for the future!'
S.A.G. Solarstrom AG are anticipating sales of between EUR190 and EUR210
million and an EBIT of between EUR8 and EUR11 million for fiscal year 2010.
