The Best Boston Pie Is Actually a Cake

While Boston Cream Pie is actually a cake, it was originally made in pie tins, which in the 19th century (when the recipe was created) were more common than cake pans. No matter how you classify it, you can certainly call it delicious.
Little about the recipe has changed since it was first created in 1856 by French Chef Sanzian of the Parker House Hotel. And while the dessert isn't mass-produced in Boston, you can find it on menus all over the city. Boston hotels, restaurants and delis offer it regularly; but for the very best, get in line at Bread and Chocolate, where people are willing to wait, rain or shine, for a slice.
