Dürr builds environmentally friendly paint shop for SVW in China
Bietigheim-Bissingen, November 16, 2010 - Dürr is building one of the most
environmentally friendly automotive paint shops in China for Shanghai SVW.
The value of the order, which Dürr is executing in Nanjing, is in the
mid-digit million euro range. Shanghai SVW is a joint venture between the
Volkswagen Group and the Chinese SAIC Group (Shanghai Automotive Industry
Corporation).
Key to energy and resource efficiency in Nanjing will be the EcoDryScrubber
spray booth system. This innovative Dürr process requires up to 60% less
energy than conventional spray booths. It also reduces the amount of fresh
water and chemicals needed. The interior and exterior painting is done
fully automatically with solvent-free, water-based paint. Dürr is
installing 24 EcoRP L133 type painting robots for this purpose.
The paint shop, with its very low operating costs, is designed for 31 units
per hour; it will be possible to expand it to double this capacity at a
later stage. Mid-class Volkswagen and Skoda models are to be painted in
Nanjing from October next year.
Dürr AG's CEO Ralf Dieter commented: 'In China, too, the trend is now
towards sustainable production facilities and processes. We are benefiting
from this as we have been focusing on the development of energy and
resource-efficient technologies for years. What's more, we can serve our
customers in China competently on the spot with our over 800 local
employees.'

positions in the world market in its areas of operation. It generates a
good 80% of its sales in business with the automotive industry. It
furthermore supplies the aircraft, machinery, chemical, and pharmaceutical
industries with innovative production and environmental technology. The

Assembly Systems division supplies production and painting technology,
especially for car bodies. Machinery and systems from the Measuring and
Process Systems division are used in engine and transmission manufacturing
and in final vehicle assembly, among other areas. Dürr has 48 business
locations in 21 countries worldwide. The Group achieved sales of EUR 1.1
billion with approximately 5,700 employees in 2009.
