CEWE COLOR focuses on sustainable growth
- CEWE COLOR publishes a first sustainability report
- Resource efficiency greatly improved
- Top position in CO2 transparency index
- Transformation creates sustainable added value
Oldenburg, 17 November 2010. CEWE COLOR Holding AG (SDAX, ISIN:
DE0005403901) has published its first sustainability report. With the
report, CEWE COLOR is giving information on sustainability activities,
which have, on the one hand, been practised by the company for many years
already and also on those that are planned for years to come. 'For many
years now, sustainability has been an elementary component of our corporate
culture. This is why we do not need to change our culture in order to
achieve systematic sustainability management,' says Dr. Rolf Hollander,
Chairman of the Board of Management of CEWE COLOR Holding AG. CEWE COLOR's
commitment to sustainability benefits the company's employees, customers,
trading partners and shareholders. Rolf Hollander: 'For all our
stakeholders, reliability, sustainability and future viability are what
count - coupled with the lowest possible risk.'
CEWE COLOR establishes sustainability at Board level, thus setting
priorities
Since the beginning of 2010, Andreas F.L. Heydemann has been responsible
for sustainability in the Board of Management. 'Our decision to put
sustainability management in place at Board level is documentation of our
conviction that thinking and acting in a responsible, sustained manner have
priority with CEWE COLOR,' Dr. Hollander points out. Andreas F.L. Heydemann
is convinced that 'a company needs to practise ecological and social
responsibility in order to achieve sustained business success'.
Resource efficiency: power consumption, water consumption and CO2 footprint
clearly reduced
CEWE COLOR has significantly enhanced its resource efficiency: the company
reduced its power consumption by 30 % in the period from 2005 to 2009. The
CO2 footprint was reduced by 22 % in relation to turnover in the same
period. Since April 2010 CEWE COLOR has been conducting its mail-order
logistics throughout Germany with the help of the carbon-neutral GoGreen
despatch service operated by Deutsche Post DHL. Moreover, since 2009, 89 %
of the paper used by CEWE COLOR for CEWE PHOTO BOOKS complies with 'Forest
Stewardship Council' (FSC(R)) guidelines. From 2002 to 2009 the CEWE COLOR
Group reduced its water consumption by almost 60 %. The company also
achieved a recycling rate of 90 % in its German operations in 2009
(group-wide 89 %). The recycling rate of all the waste is constant at more
than 95 %.
CEWE COLOR ranked in a top position among the most transparent companies
The international, non-profit CO2 transparency initiative, the Carbon
Disclosure Project (CDP), has placed CEWE COLOR in the group of the 15 most
transparent enterprises from 200 listed German companies. CEWE COLOR is the
only SDAX company to achieve such a top position. The CDP prepares an
annual ranking list of the most transparent companies whose climate reports
show an extremely high quality.
Transition successfully accomplished
The transition in technology from analogue to digital photography has been
accomplished by CEWE COLOR and its business model is future-oriented. Rolf
Hollander: 'Readiness to make changes, the speed of change and precise,
early adaptation to anticipated market developments are deeply rooted in
the DNA of our company. They are the basis that enables CEWE COLOR to
create sustainable values.' The measure of success: CEWE COLOR has
reinforced its position as Europe's market leader in the field of
photofinishing and has doubled its market share in industrial
photofinishing from 25 per cent to 50 per cent since 2002. While CEWE COLOR
produced only 36 million digital photos in 2002, this figure had risen to
more than two billion digital photos in 2009. The CEWE PHOTO BOOK is a
particularly successful product: CEWE COLOR increased sales from 70,000
books in the 2005 business year to more than 3.6 million books in 2009. The
development of an outstanding software program, the introduction of a brand
name and the intensive operation of Internet sales were decisive success
factors here. 'The transformation phase was hugely demanding for the
company: we reduced the number of operations from 28 to 12, we had to cope
with high restructuring costs and at the same time we invested in
innovations. We nevertheless generated profits and paid out dividends every
year during the transformation phase. This was only possible because the
entire Group focused on the challenge of making the transition as such a
successful one,' says Dr. Rolf Hollander.
Earnings per share to double in 2010
'In 2010 we will very clearly benefit from the sustainable, forward-looking
approach of our business model,' Rolf Hollander emphasises. The company is
planning to double earnings per share to around EUR 2 per share in the
current business year.
