New Development Partnership brings Sustainable Solar Energy to Jordan
The Industrial Solar GmbH and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) support the market for solar process heat in Jordan within the scope of a development partnership
(PresseBox) - The Jordanian industry is responsible for around one third of the national energy consumption. The largest share of this energy is used to provide process heat for industrial processes. Therefore mainly fossil fuels are used. Despite the high solar irradiation solar process heat is not commonly applied in Jordan. Among others a lack of know-how and insufficient financing opportunities are major barriers.
Within the scope of a 24 months project Industrial Solar and the GIZ teamed up to support the development of a market for solar process heat in Jordan.
Solar thermal collectors can effectively provide heat for industrial processes and thereby cut energy costs and CO2 emissions. Jordan has almost no fossil fuel reserves and imports more than 95% of its energy demand. The rising costs for energy are an increasing burden for the Jordanian economy. The development partnership therefore can contribute to a sustainable and cost effective energy supply in Jordan and create job opportunities in the mid-term.
As a pilot project the partners install a Linear Fresnel Solar Process Heat System from Industrial Solar at RAM Pharma, a pharmaceutical company in Sahab, Jordan.
The development partnership with the Industrial Solar GmbH is part of the develoPPP.de programme that Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) implements on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Industrial Solar GmbH is a solution provider for solar process heat and solar thermal cooling. It was founded in 2008 in the environment of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Freiburg, Germany. The solutions of Industrial Solar are built upon its innovative linear concentrating Fresnel collector which is optimized for industrial applications in the medium power range. Industrial Solar has already realized 12 projects in various countries. Moreover, Industrial Solar has developed close partnerships with major industrial companies.
RAM Pharma
RAM PHARMA is a pharmaceutical company established in the year 1992. It manufactures and distributes various pharmaceutical dosage forms, especially formulations based on Penicillin, Hormone and Cephalosporin. The factory is located in the King Abdullah II Industrial City, Amman Industrial Estate, Sahab, about 15 km away from Amman, Jordan.
