Trimodal terminal in Metz turns Port of Bonn into Rhine-Moselle hub

ID: 331578

In March 2014, MMS Multi Modal Shuttle, the trimodal terminal in Metz, launched a new scheduled container service by river barge.

(firmenpresse) - Bonn. In the course of containerisation on the Moselle, the Port of Bonn is creating reliable links between the Moselle region and the ports in the west, and hence a competitive alternative. Recently, the trimodal terminal in Metz was put into operation. An extensive portfolio of logistics services will be provided on a terminal space that will exceed 30,000 m² in future. At the outset, the Metz schedule includes two barge departures and two barge arrivals a week to and from Antwerp and Rotterdam. Other departures are possible on request.

First major customer on board: IKEA

“The growing significance of the Moselle waterway makes it a highly competitive alternative for the industry, trade, and logistics sectors. An integrated solution that unites quality, cost optimisation, and sustainability,” explained Gerd Thiebes, General Manager of MMS. For the launch, the IKEA company could be gained as the first major customer.

The trimodal terminal in Metz is operated jointly by two partners, the Société des Ports de Moselle and Am-Zehnhoff-Söns. Their common goal is to pool their knowhow and knowledge and in this manner obtain the best results for their customers. The cooperation partner selected for the river barge services is HTAG Häfen und Transport AG, which has been operating in Thionville in the Moselle department for nearly forty years. At present, the new terminal is being expanded, at an investment cost of €15 million. Completion is scheduled for 2015.
