Growing Number of TSOs at PRISMA attracts new platform participants

ID: 334618

(PresseBox) - The rising number of TSOs participating in the European capacity platform PRISMA has attracted a number of new gas trading companies to the platform over the past year.
PRISMA had a total of 376 registered gas trading companies in July 2014, up 49 % compared to the number of shippers registered at the launch of its platform in April 2013. This translates into a total of 123 new trading companies that have registered to the PRISMA platform over the period. Out of the 376 registered trading companies, 81 % have been actively trading on the platform.
The rise in the number of participants at PRISMA comes as a result of the market's constantly growing interest towards the services offered which enable users, amongst other things, to easily acquire interconnection capacity between the main European hubs.
Götz Lincke, managing director at PRISMA said: "These numbers reflect the high acceptance the PRISMA platform has gained in the European gas market since its launch. It shows that our original concept to create a platform jointly operated by many European TSOs was the right approach and has proven to be a major step towards creating the EU internal market."

With the foundation of PRISMA on 1 January 2013, major European TSOs from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands have bundled their collective experience in the field of capacity booking platforms in order to create a joint European capacity platform.
The goal of the new European Platform, which will be launched on 1 April 2013, is the early implementation of ENTSOG's Network Code on Capacity Allocation Mechanisms, the future market rules for allocating transport capacity. The platform will be able to handle harmonized capacity products and offer auction mechanisms as described in the ENTSOG CAM Network Code.
The new European platform will be a major step towards an integrated European gas market linking the gas markets of seven different countries in the core of Europe. Thus, it opens new possibilities for cross-border gas transport to shippers, who will then be able to book capacities at European network points through one single platform. The platform will be able to handle different capacity products, offer auction mechanisms and serve different TSO backend systems. The platform will also have a secondary market function.

In addition, PRISMA will focus on making the booking experience for each user even easier with state-of-the-art technology and enhanced service capacity.
The new PRISMA European Capacity Platform will be based on the experience of the operation of three existing platforms in Europe: Capsquare, Link4Hubs as well as the former TRAC-X primary platform.
