Mt. Clemens, MI--Michigan-based LED lighting manufacturer Clean L ight
Green Light (CLGL), a U.S. subsidiary of Global Dynamix Solutions GB PLC,
has won a bid to retrofit 7.5 miles of streetlights on a six lane freeway
in the city of Mission Texas. 400 watt high pressure sodium vapor lights
will be retrofitted with CLGL LRP88, 85 watt plates in early summer of
2011 which will save the city approximately $30,000 per year on just this
brief stretch of highway.
'Every indication including successful beta tests points to the fact that
this is the first of many such municipal projects.' shares CLGL CEO David
McKinney. 'We are confident that we will soon be awarded several more
projects in Texas, as well as other cities across the U.S. representing a
significant revenue stream for CLGL.'
Three factors made CLGL the front runner for this contract; the plates are
U.S. made, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed, and CLGL is the only
manufacturer of viable retrofit plates that fit into existing streetlight
heads providing additional savings as compared to complete streetlight
replacements
In addition to energy and monetary savings of 50-75%, the plates will not
need to be replaced for over twelve (12) years at existing hours of use in
comparison to every three and a half years for the high pressure sodium
lamps. This represents a huge reduction in maintenance costs and improved
safety for highway maintenance staff .The project is being funded by U.S.
Federal Stimulus funds and includes purchase of a boom truck for the
installation.
According to a 2010 report titled 'LED and Energy Efficient Lighting
Worldwide Markets: Indoor, Outdoor, Residential and Commercial' by SBI
Energy, there are an estimated 500,000 million street lights in the world
with 34 million of them in America. Streetlights consume roughly 35% of a
municipality's energy bill based on high pressure sodium technology and LED
streetlights cut that figure in half. Additionally, LED street lights
present better light levels providing increased driver safety.
The Clean Light Green Light LED Streetlight Series is one of the few LED
offerings for this market sector that can provide required light outputs
making them practical for use in the real world now. CLGL offers three
categorical options: LED retrofit plates that can be retrofitted into
existing street light heads, LED replacement streetlight heads that can be
