Vocal Group Uses Music to Bring Medieval and Renaissance Art to 'Life'
"Echoes in the Great Hall" Marks Ensemble's USA Debut

(firmenpresse) - PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/16/14 -- Celebrated European vocal ensemble will have its public U.S. debut on Friday, Sept. 19, performing a unique aural circumnavigation of the art and artifacts in Great Hall. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Les Canards Chantants ("The Singing Ducks" in English) formed in York, England in 2010. The group specializes in the vocal music of the Renaissance. The ensemble recently relocated to Philadelphia.
Robin Bier, co-founder and co-artistic director, says the audience will get a unique visceral experience.
"We have designed sets of music connected to specific works of art around the Glencairn Great Hall -- their subject matter and emotional impact," explains Bier. "The repertoire is incredibly beautiful and can be a powerful experience for a first time listener."
Glencairn Museum houses a collection of rare religious art and artifacts and is considered the leading museum of religious-art interpretation today by scholars and collectors alike. It is the oldest operating museum dedicated to religious art in the world.
Les Canards Chantants has performed for the BBC, The National Centre for Early Music, London Salters Hall, the Scarborough Rotunda, and more.
Tickets for "Echoes in the Great Hall" are not sold in advance, but may be purchased at the door beginning 30 minutes prior to the performance. Admission for adults is $15 and $10 for museum members and students with I.D.

Glencairn Museum is located at 1001 Cathedral Road, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009.
Located just outside Philadelphia, Glencairn Museum is a part of the Bryn Athyn Historic District, a National Historic Landmark since 2008 (). The District includes Pitcairn family residences -- father John Pitcairn's Beaux-Arts mansion, Cairnwood Estate, and son Raymond's Glencairn -- and the renowned Bryn Athyn Cathedral. All were constructed between 1892 and 1939. Today, Cairnwood serves as an educational, cultural and hospitality center, Bryn Athyn Cathedral remains a place of worship for the New Church, and Glencairn houses a museum of religious art and history.
