Energy-saving LEDs keep stores cool and save money
Simi Valley, CA, USA -Seesmart Holdings Inc. (DEA:APF) LED lighting
manufacturer Seesmart Holdings, Inc. (DE:APF) has grocery stores across the
country aglow with its LED replacements for fluorescent tube lights. The
third largest grocery retailer in the United States has begun retrofitting
its freezers and dairy cases with Seesmart's 5-foot and 6-foot LED tube
lights.
By replacing fluorescent tube lights that draw 75 to 85 Watts of power with
Seesmart's 19 and 23 Watt LED lights, the retrofitted stores now use 1/4 of
the energy they once used to light their refrigerated displays. Because
LEDs produce far less heat than fluorescents, the LED lights also reduce
the power required to keep the cases cool. As a result, each Seesmart LED
tube light pays for itself in less than 7 months.
Seesmart LEDs are already in use in about a dozen of the grocery chain's
stores. In total, the chain operates over 2,500 stores nationally. A
retrofit of refrigerated cases costs around $10,000 per store. In the last
year alone, Seesmart has supplied lighting for seven different store
locations. If the chain were to implement Seesmart's LED lighting in
refrigerated cases in all 2,500 stores, it could save over 37 million
dollars per year on energy costs.
'We are excited to have the opportunity to integrate our lighting into
freezer and dairy cases in grocery stores across the country,' said Ray

retrofit the overhead lighting in these stores, which would produce for
each store an annual energy savings of about $140,000 and a CO2 emissions
reduction of 804,000 pounds. This would allow for considerable economic
