Guilty Plea and Sentence in Terrorism Case

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/17/14 -- Hiva Mohammed Alizadeh, 34, pleaded guilty today in Ontario Superior Court to making or having in his possession an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property, for the benefit of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.2 of the Criminal Code. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison, less credit for time served in pre-trial custody. Pursuant to s. 743.6 of the Criminal Code, he will be ineligible to apply for parole until at least half his sentence is served.

He had also been charged with conspiring to facilitate the activities of a terrorist group, contrary to s.83.19, and to participating in the activities of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.18. These charges were withdrawn.
