Dynamic growth of GERRY WEBER Retail segment continues in April
(Halle/Westphalia, 05 May 2011) The dynamic growth of the Retail segment of
GERRY WEBER continued in April. Sales revenues of EUR 20.1 million and a
38% increase on the previous year mean that the positive expectations were
more than fulfilled last month. With like-for-like sales up by 18%, the
company remained in brilliant form in April. At +42% and +19%,
respectively, sales growth rates in Denmark and Germany were above average;
the company's German growth rate was 7% above the +12% reported for the
sector as a whole by the Textilwirtschaft trade magazine. Growth rates of
over 16% were reported also in Spain and the UK.
The excellent performance was naturally also reflected in 6-month sales
revenues, which totalled EUR 101.5 million, up EUR 22.6 million or 28.6% on
the previous year.
Like-for-like sales made a big contribution to this positive performance,
having grown by 10% on average in the first six months. Sales revenues
generated by the German Houses of GERRY WEBER increased by over 11%; growth
of almost 8% was reported outside Germany. Managing Director Ralf Weber was
particularly satisfied with the growth of the Danish stores, whose
like-for-like sales rose by 23%.
The company also has good news regarding its expansion. The first two shops
resulting from the Castro takeover were opened in Leverkusen and
Weiterstadt in April, with new Houses of GERRY WEBER opened in Neuss, Kehl
and Freilassing and an outlet store opened in Herrieden. At an
international level, the planned roll-out with Spanish partner El Corte
Inglés made good progress. New concession stores opened in recent weeks
have brought the total number to 31.
The Retail segment of GERRY WEBER will continue its expansion in the coming
months, planning to open 15 new Houses of GERRY WEBER in Germany. 'This is
certainly not the end,' emphasised Ralf Weber. New stores will also be
opened outside Germany in the current fiscal year.
