Berlin-based supplier of energy storage solutions reports 21% increase in
sales alongside 46% rise in total revenue
Berlin, 10 May 2011 - Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG, a leading provider
of clean energy storage solutions, today announced its results, in
accordance with the German Commercial Code, for the financial year ending
on 31 December 2010.
2010 financial and operating highlights:
* Sales grew by 21% to EUR4.1 million (2009: EUR3.4 million) based on a
series of major projects and increased OEM business
* Total revenue rose by 46% to EUR5.1 million (2009: EUR3.5 million)
* Significant increase in gross profit to EUR2.5 million (2009: EUR1.5
million) and 50% (2009: 43%) of total revenue
* The net loss for the financial year amounted to EUR-3.0 million (2009:
EUR-2.8 million) and was thus better than planned
* Acquisition and delivery of several major projects in the field of
autonomous power supply and power storage solutions, including for an oil
company in Bahrain
* Start of industrial field testing of the Heliocentris Nexa 1200 fuel cell
system platform in the area of emergency power and autonomous energy supply
solutions with various industry partners; grant of up to EUR750,000
received for this from the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building
and Urban Development
* Start of development of a hybrid waste disposal vehicle with
significantly reduced noise and exhaust gas emissions for BSR (Berliner
Stadtreinigung), Germany's largest municipal waste disposal company, in
cooperation with FAUN Umwelttechnik GmbH&Co. KG, the European market
leader for waste disposal vehicles
* Launch of two new clean energy training products (Clean Energy Trainer
and Nexa Training System 2) at Worlddidac, one of the world's largest
training trade fairs, in Basel, Switzerland
* Capital increase with gross proceeds of EUR2.8 million (November 2010)
Dr Henrik Colell, CEO of Heliocentris AG, commented: 'We are delighted by
the continuation of our sales growth, especially from projects relating to
autonomous power supply and storage solutions. In light of the debate that
a conversion to renewable energies on a sustainable basis cannot be carried
out without energy storage technologies, we can feel considerable momentum
behind our solutions.'
Consolidated sales for the 2010 financial year amounted to EUR4.1 million
(2009: EUR3.4 million), which represents growth of 21%. This growth was
driven by America and Asia, particularly the Middle East, and results
largely from the extensive project business, especially in the field of
stationary energy solutions, and from significantly increased OEM sales in
the training business.
Other operating income rose markedly from EUR0.2 million in 2009 to EUR0.6
million in 2010. This reflects the company's success in increasingly
co-financing development costs by means of public grants.
Operating expenses for the financial year amounted to EUR5.5 million (2009:
EUR4.4 million). This increase is mainly due to a rise in personnel
expenses of EUR0.9 million to EUR3.5 million (2009: EUR2.6 million). As at
31 December 2010, the company employed 65 permanent staff (2009: 50 staff).
In particular, employees were recruited in the project department and in
the areas of business development and production. Other expenses climbed to
EUR1.8 million (2009: EUR1.5 million). Other costs include capital market
costs and costs for investor relations and the Annual General Meeting
totalling EUR0.3 million (2009: EUR0.4 million).
The net loss for the financial year amounted to EUR-3.0 million (2009:
EUR-2.8 million) and was thus better than expected. This was incurred in
the context of the company's growth plans and reflects the company's
increased internal financing power.
The introduction of the two business units of Clean Energy Training and
Clean Power Solutions was prepared in the second half of 2010 and carried
out on 1 January 2011. The increased focus should enable the units to
accelerate their growth dynamics.
Dr Andras Gosztonyi, CFO of Heliocentris AG, had this to say: 'The
implementation of the business units is a major step with regard to the
capacity of Heliocentris for growth. The implemented structure enhances
external transparency, increases internal productivity and is a decisive
factor in implementing a targeted and aggressive growth strategy in both
units.'
As at 31 December 2010, Heliocentris had EUR3.1 million (2009: EUR3.9
million) in cash and cash equivalents.
The publication of the Annual Report is scheduled for 13 May 2010.
