Runners to Storm Lincoln Park for Annual Bastille Day Event
Planned Property Management Encourages Area Residents to Join This Run/Walk That Benefits Chicago's Mercy Home for Boys & Girls
(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 10/08/14 -- On Thursday, July 10, Lincoln Park hosted runners and Francophiles for the 33rd annual Bastille Day Run, Walk and Block Party.
The event featured a 5k run/walk and an 8k run/walk followed by a block party at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum; registration fees will benefit the Chicago Mercy Home for Boys & Girls. The courses originate in Lincoln Park at the Cannon and Fullerton entrance. The 8k run/walk kicked off at 7:15 p.m. on July 10, followed by the 5k at 7:30 p.m.
"The Bastille Day Run is a lot of fun, whether you're an avid runner or just looking to join a great community event that helps a good cause," said Jasko Omervic of Planned Property Management, which owns and manages a number of Lincoln Park-area rental properties, including . "A lot of participants go all out with French-themed costumes and tricolor clothing."
A block party afterward will feature refreshments and live music. This year, food includes barbecue from the nearby Old Crow Smokehouse restaurant, although some French fare is also typically offered. The event's actual link to French National Day, or Bastille Day, which marks the storming of the Bastille prison and the beginning of the French Revolution, has been lost over the decades, though the run/walk is increasingly popular and last year attracted nearly 1,000 runners for the 5k alone.
