Chicago Puppeteers Give Life to Gorey's 'The Vinegar Works'

(firmenpresse) - CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 10/08/14 -- Puppet shows aren't just for kids, as Chicago's Blair Thomas & Company proves with "The Vinegar Works," a production inspired by the morbidly humorous works of Edward Gorey that ran through June 14 at the Loyola University Museum of Art.
Based on Gorey's "The Vinegar Works: Three Volumes of Moral Instruction," the show has drawn praise for its creative puppetry and morose sense of humor; the Chicago Reader calls "The Vinegar Works" "a stunning feat of artistry and toy theatrical skill." Performances were at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. every Saturday through June 14 at the Loyola University Museum of Art, 820 N. Michigan Ave.

Gorey was a writer and artist most widely known for his pen-and-ink illustrations. Among his most popular works is "The Gashlycrumb Tinies," a volume of "The Vinegar Works" that chronicles the demise of 26 children who represent letters of the alphabet ("'N' is for Neville who died of ennui...").
