Tricorona och Opcon team up to finance increased export of environmental technology
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Tricorona and the energy and environmental technology Group Opconhave signed a partnership agreement concerning exports of Opcon'senergy and environmental technology that reduces climate impact. Thecarbon credits generated via the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)established under the Kyoto Protocol will be bought and managed byTricorona. The partnership agreement focuses on the sale of Opcon Powerbox andOpcon's technology for generating carbon-free electricity from wasteheat. Marketing efforts have already started on the Chinese market, where there are major environmental problems and industry generateslarge amounts of waste heat. The partnership also covers othermarkets and more Opcon products that reduce climate impact, wherejoint marketing is planned to start up later this year.- "Through additional financing based on the CDM we can help Opcon toreach new customers around the world. With financing from the CDMscheme this type of new, state-of-the-art environmental technologyfrom Sweden can be made available to developing nations who areexpanding their energy systems," says Marco Berggren, head of TechTransfers at Tricorona.Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a flexible mechanism within theKyoto Protocol and complements the effort of industrial countries inreducing their own emissions. Investment in new technology forreduced climate impact in most developing countries generates carboncredits within the system. In China, for example, between 0.6 and 1.1carbon credits are generated per MWh produced from renewable energy, depending where investment takes place in the country.Opcon Powerbox is Opcon's proprietary product for producing newcarbon-free electricity from waste heat at temperatures as low as55°C. A standard Opcon Powerbox is at 0,74 MW and can be installed inlarge process-industry plants, power stations, larger diesel enginesor with adaption, onboard larger ships. Using waste heat, electricityis produced from energy that would otherwise be wasted. Waste heathas an enormous and unutilised potential. According to the US energydepartment, waste heat in American industry is a larger source ofenergy than electricity produced from all renewable energy sources inthe US put together.- "This is yet another stage in Opcon's international expansionstrategy. Tricorona has an extensive network and with its knowledgeof upcoming energy projects in several developing countries thecompany will be a good partner for Opcon both in finding customersand securing financing. Carbon credits provide a significantfinancial bonus for our customers. In general teams they can accountfor around 3-4% of the investment cost per year, which can correspondto around half of the customer's interest costs for their investmentin our equipment," says Per Hedebäck, head of Opcon's RenewableEnergy business area. For further information please contact:Marco Berggren, Head of Tech Transfer, Tricorona AB, tel. 08-506 88580Niklas Johansson, vice president, Investor Relations, Opcon AB, tel.08-466 45 00, 070-592 54 53http://hugin.info/137853/R/1328023/313002.pdfThis announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
