A Night of Dance, Celebration, Creativity, and Awareness for Clean Air in Utah

Those of us living in this fantastic city all have first-hand experience with the extent of our air pollution problem. We currently have the dubious distinction of the nation's worst air quality, perhaps most notably in the winter when our dreaded "inversions" settle into the valley for days on end. In the first two months of 2014 alone, air quality along the Wasatch Front exceeded the country's air pollution standards at least . This means that for more than two weeksour community -- especially its most vulnerable populations -- was subjected to levels of air pollution deemed to be unsafe and unhealthy.
In an effort to raise awareness in this growing issue, Landis Salon will host , a community celebration and fashion show that will bring together positive and like-minded folks who seek to do something about our air quality. Says one of the event organizers, Corigan Kushma, "We have a unique topography and problem here, but we also have an opportunity to be leaders in air quality solutions for the nation." , a regional conservation nonprofit, has been at the forefront of setting healthy air quality standards for the state, and all proceeds raised will go directly to the "Clean Air Utah" division, which serves to regulate and protect our air. Together, they hope to shed light on an identifiable problem with less obvious solutions by reminding everyone that small, personal changes make all the difference.
The City of Salt Lake is supportive of these efforts: "This effort by Western Resource Advocates with the support of Landis Salon and these great local dance organizations is absolutely wonderful," said Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker. "Our ongoing work at Salt Lake City to address this problem is greatly bolstered by grassroots, bottom-up efforts by our community, like the event. It is only through working together that we will make advancements against the biggest issue facing our City and the entire Salt Lake Valley -- our dangerously poor air quality."
Hosted at the Jeanne Wagner Theater on Sunday, November 2nd, guests will have the opportunity to purchase general admission tickets or a higher tier, complete with VIP dinner and reception. A cocktail hour with a silent auction and raffle will follow, and all attendees will enjoy performances from some of our state's best dancers and dance groups, including Ballet West, Ryrie Woodbury, Transfusion Hype, NOW International Dance, Underground Dance Crew, and Park City Dance Academy, among others.
