Kostuch Media Recognizes CHG Founder as Restaurateur of the Year

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 10/15/14 -- Steven Salm, President of (CHG), the team behind The Chase, The Chase Fish & Oyster, and Colette Grand Cafe, has been named 'Independent Restaurateur of the Year.' Salm will be presented with a Pinnacle Award from Kostuch Media's Foodservice and Hospitality Magazine at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in a December 2014 ceremony.

With this prestigious designation, Salm joins a very select group of men and women who have contributed to the significant growth and professional stature of the hospitality industry throughout Ontario and on a national scale. Pinnacle Award holders are distinguished for their contributions to the industry through civic, educational and community involvement, as well as their efforts in establishing innovative concepts in foodservice or hotel management.

Salm, a respected entrepreneur, has launched three outstanding restaurants under the CHG umbrella, with plans to introduce another by year's end. Since The Chase and The Chase Fish & Oyster first opened their doors in summer 2013, the two restaurants have quickly established themselves among the city's most beloved dining institutions. Each boast a loyal clientele and have received supportive and complimentary reviews from The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Boston Globe, The National Post, and other top media outlets. In early 2014, Toronto Life magazine bestowed upon The Chase the highly coveted "Best New Restaurant" designation. A month ago, Salm and CHG opened , a modern French restaurant and bakery located at grade in the heart of the King West neighbourhood. Like CHG's first two concepts, Colette offers an inspired culinary experience, refined service, set in a beautifully appointed space.

Salm's impressive hospitality experience and genuine passion for the industry gave him the tools required to spearhead the growth of Toronto's culinary scene and develop new talent in the field. With their in-house development program, CHG recognizes entrepreneurial spirited team members and provides training opportunities for leadership positions within the organization. Salm also gives back to the community through his support of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Before becoming one of the founding members of CHG, Salm held roles at notable establishments such as BLT NYC and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

"I am so humbled by this award. Our main focus has always been on creating exceptional experiences for our guests and making a positive impact on the industry. It is truly and honour to be recognized." says Salm. "The last two years have been so rewarding and this award confirms that we're on the right path. We look forward to continuing to serve the city of Toronto with commitment and enthusiasm."

Since their first award was introduced in 1988, Foodservice and Hospitality has honoured a diverse group of leaders for their success and achievements, representing every facet of the industry, from upscale dining to quick-service offerings. Past winners include Emad Yacoub, Yannick Bigourdan, David Lee, John Jackson, and Franco Prevedello.
