Surrogacy centres have come a long way and in fact, they follow a set standard and procedure for selecting surrogate mothers.
(firmenpresse) - Thanks to NGOs and work done by surrogacy clinics, there is today no dearth of surrogate mothers in India.
Until a decade ago, surrogacy in India was in its infancy. While expertise and equipment was available, surrogate moms were procured by dubious means. This was because Indian society frowns down upon women delivering babies outside the wedlock.
NGOs and surrogacy clinics selected clean localities and began educating married couples on the topic of surrogacy. It took quite a bit of education and enforcing the fact that surrogacy did not involve sex but was rather a clinical process aimed at helping folks who could not for medical or other reasons, have a baby on their own.
Indian mythology is replete with instances of royalty procuring babies through surrogacy means. Using such examples as the background and educating couples in their own language as well as the monetary incentive offered, slowly and steadily tipped the scales. As word-of-mouth spread, more and more married ladies came forward to offer surrogacy services.
Written, legally valid consent from the husband was obtained and his wife would be well looked after during the gestation and pregnancy period. All medical expenses too would be taken care of. The surrogacy fees so collected helped put their own children to school or pay for a small house or any other expense they had in mind.
Unmarried ladies too could opt to be Gestational surrogate mother provided their parents give their written consent.
Today, surrogacy centres have come a long way and in fact, they follow a set standard and procedure for selecting surrogate mothers. This includes an exhaustive pre-screening that determines suitability of the prospective female as a surrogate mom.
As a rule of thumb, preference is given to ladies who have delivered healthy babies of their own. This simple rule establishes the prospective surrogate mom’s ability to deliver a healthy child. Exhaustive medical tests are also conducted to establish current medical status of the prospective surrogate mom.
Apart from medical factors, other factors such as age, physical features, education, hygiene and social factors are taken into account. Prospective surrogate moms who hit all the right checkboxes, are entered into a database which is then queried whenever the services of a surrogate mom are required.
Prior to the surrogacy procedure, a selected Indian Surrogate Mothers is once again medically examined to confirm suitability. An agreement is drawn up and part payment made before the surrogacy procedure begins. The surrogate mother in India is well looked after the entire period until the baby is handed over to the intending couple.
Naturally, all costs pertaining to the procedures, food, accommodation, fees etc. are to be borne by the intending couple who desire the baby. Usually, the amounts are initially paid by the surrogacy centre itself but reimbursed by the intending couple.
