Biogas Nord - back into the black
Biogas Nord (BGN), announces the annual financial statements for 2010
2010 was a very successful year for BGN. For the first time since 2006, and
following 3 consecutive years of losses, BGN entered well into profit,
with an EBITDA of TEUR 2,069 compared to a negative EBITDA of TEUR (389) in
2009 - an increase of almost TEUR 2,500 during 2010.
During 2010, the second year in a row since the takeover by EBP (European
Business Partners), headed Alexander Rechter, who is also the CEO of Biogas
Nord AG, BGN showed a major improvement. The annual turnover from projects
reached almost Euro 56M, compared to Euro 37M in 2009, an increase of 53%,
which followed an increase of 104% during 2009. The net earnings after
taxes and minority interests were 957 TEUR, following a net loss of 642
TEUR during the previous year.
Alexander Rechter, CEO of BGN: '2010 has been another year of consolidation
and growth for our company. We have shown that the results achieved in 2009
were not temporary or incidental. In 2010 we achieved an increase of over
53% in turnover, and a return to profitability'.
The management attributes the results to several factors. Streamlined
internal procedures enabled the group to achieve the 53% increased turnover
with only a modest increase in the number of employees, from 105 in 2009 to
131 at the end of 2010. Another factor is the continued strength of the
German domestic market. The implementation of the
EEG(Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, i.e. Renewable Energy Sources Act) has
increased the domestic demand for biogas plants. The total output, divided
by the average number of workers, increased by 43.6% to TEUR 462 in 2010.
At the end of 2010 BGN succeeded in hitting the milestone of 300 completed
plants in 11 different countries. As of June 2011, 68 plants have been
completed or are under construction, compared to only 39 plants as of June
2010.
Outlook:
Alexander Rechter: 'Our goal is to become a truly global turnkey biogas
plant provider. We have already started activities in this direction. As a
technology leader we strive to remain ahead of all the technological
in-novations in order to continue to upgrade our biogas plants into the
most modern, state-of-the-art installations. And, last but not least, we
have to adapt our products to suit new application possibilities. More and
more sectors, especially those handling waste, see biogas plants as the
right answer to their needs. We are adapting our products to answer these
changing demands.'
