SDRL - The eighth consecutive ultra-deepwater newbuild commences operations
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Seadrill is pleased to inform that the ultra-deepwatersemi-submersible rig West Eminence has commenced drilling operationsfor Petroleo Brasileiro S.A - Petrobras in Brazil. West Eminence,which was delivered from Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea inMarch this year arrived offshore Brazil in June and has since arrivalprepared for start-up of operations. West Eminence is chartered toPetrobras under a six-year contract for operations in the SantosBasin nearly 350 km offshore Rio de Janeiro. The commencement of theWest Eminence contract completes the delivery of the original eightdeepwater rig newbuilds that were contracted in 2005 and 2006. It isthe second deepwater newbuild delivered to Seadrill that starts on along-term contract with Petrobras.Alf C Thorkildsen, Chief Executive Officer, says, "We are proud ofhaving successfully completed the commencement of operations for theoriginal eight deepwater newbuilds over the last 12 months on fivedifferent continents. This concludes the first phase of developingSeadrill into a truly global offshore deepwater drilling contractor.Furthermore, these units represent a superb order backlog withquality customers providing average contract length per unit justshort of five-years and at attractive dayrates. We have in the lasttwo months also seen a clear improvement in the average utilizationof the seven newbuilds that have already commenced operation. Thisconfirms that Seadrill delivers a safe and efficient service to ourclients.
