Dr. Deborah H. Atkin Uses a Combination of Three Innovative Fraxel Lasers to Reverse Precancerous Sun-Damage and Improve Skin Tone and Texture

(firmenpresse) - DEL MAR, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/28/14 -- Though San Diego's year-round sunny weather is enticing to many, the sun's UVA/UVB rays can contribute to an increased risk of skin cancer and the development of unwanted skin conditions such as age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, explains Deborah H. Atkin, MD. With the popularity of San Diego's outdoor lifestyle, reversing sun-damage is particularly important for its active residents, she states.

For patients interested in addressing a variety of age and sun-related skin conditions, Dr. Atkin utilizes the state-of-the-art . She explains that the technology are numerous; treatment will help to reduce signs of sun-damage and aging while improving overall skin texture and condition. Furthermore, she clarifies, "Patients seeking laser skin resurfacing with fractionated lasers have three options: erbium, thulium, and CO2 (carbon dioxide)."

Fractionated Erbium lasers, such as the and Erbium/Thulium lasers such as the , are designed to treat mild age-related symptoms, Dr. Atkin notes. She also says these treatments can improve some types of acne and surgical scars, as well as enhance skin tone and texture. Fractionated CO2 lasers, including the , are designed to treat pigmentation, deeper wrinkles, and skin laxity, she contrasts. Ultimately, she explains, both the Fraxel® DUAL and Fraxel® Re:Pair® are excellent choices for treating actinic sun-damage. At Dr. Atkin's medical and cosmetic dermatology practice, Dermatology & Laser of Del Mar, all three treatment options are available.

Dr. Atkin explains that Fraxel® lasers are intended to treat a variety of skin tones and age ranges without excessive downtime. "Each Fraxel® laser offers specific advantages," she says, "and the laser treatments are highly customizable. We help patients determine which laser will benefit them most by careful examination and consultation. We then determine the best wavelength or combination of wavelengths, often resulting in treatment with the Fraxel® Re:store™, DUAL, and/or Re:pair®."

Dr. Atkin emphasizes the importance of rejuvenating skin care in Southern California's sunny desert climate. Many patients spend a great deal of time outdoors and they do not want to give up their active lifestyles, she says. In addition to improving the appearance of the skin, she states that Fraxel® lasers can often reverse precancerous indicators, offering a dual-approach to skin rejuvenation. "Medical patients love the benefit of sun-damage reversal along with cosmetic improvement. Cosmetic patients love that they can enjoy a medical benefit while improving their appearance."

Dr. Atkin also indicates that Fraxel® lasers do not result in sun sensitivity or require any unusual skin care routine post-treatment. She says any age patient who is interested in reversing years of precancerous sun-damage, reducing fine lines, improving skin laxity, or diminishing scarring would benefit from Fraxel®.

Ultimately, Dr. Atkin recommends for patients seeking tighter, smoother, more youthful-looking skin as each treatment can be customized to correct the unique skin conditions of the individual.
