BloomSky to Give Away Ten Thousand Personal Smart Weather Stations to American Schools and Parks

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 11/10/14 -- BloomSky, a Silicon Valley start-up and developer of the world's first personal smart weather station, today announced it will give away 10,000 of its outdoor modules to public and private schools and public parks throughout the United States. The new BloomSky "hyperlocal" weather station lets users monitor real-time weather data and sky images, and crowdsource the results.

The BloomSky personal weather station is a combination of hardware and a mobile network that lets users access community-based, media-rich weather data from a network of mobile-enabled devices. Users can access all of this information from any sensor on the BloomSky network, and literally see what the weather is like, wherever they want.

The complete BloomSky weather station consists of both indoor and outdoor modules, with five senses making it capable of measuring temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, UV exposure and precipitation. The external module also features an HD camera, which routinely turns on at dawn and off at dusk. The 170 degree, ultra-wide angle lens camera takes picture of the sky every 3-5 minutes and, at sunset, automatically creates a time-lapse video of the day's weather.

In addition, the BloomSky weather station is powered by atmospheric sensors that are smart enough to see whenever the weather in a neighborhood changes and automatically send an update to the user's smartphone. Consumers can even use it to post weather photos to their Facebook page and Twitter feed, or share them on Instagram.

The company is also conducting a beta test of its new network, which will encompass the entire city of San Francisco, a metropolis well-known for its challenging terrain and microclimates.

The free modules will be distributed in the second quarter of 2015. School and park departments that wish to receive one or more of the BloomSky weather stations, may apply at:

BloomSky aims to bring weather into the digital age by changing the way data is collected and shared. Crowdsourcing is the most efficient way to build an infrastructure capable of achieving accurate, hyperlocal weather data around the world.
