Bombardier Signs 255 Million USD Contracts to Supply, Operate and Maintain an Automated People Mover System in Phoenix, USA
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Bombardier to provide first driverless transit system in Arizona atPhoenix Sky Harbor International Airport - the 23rd leading airportto select Bombardier APM technologyBERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - July 14, 2009) - BombardierTransportation has signed contracts with the City of Phoenix for thesupply and operations and maintenance of a BOMBARDIER INNOVIAautomated people mover (APM) system at Phoenix Sky HarborInternational Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. The design-buildcontract, valued at approximately $186 million US (133 millioneuros), includes the design and supply of all of the system-wideElectrical and Mechanical (E&M) equipment, and the construction andequipping of the Operations and Maintenance and Storage Facility(OMSF). Under a separate operate-maintain contract, valued atapproximately $69 million US (50 million euros), Bombardier willprovide operation and maintenance services for 10 years. With our team of strong local contractors, we lookforward to becoming a sustainable and viable business partner in thePhoenix community."Bombardier Transportation's facility, located in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania, will be responsible for the design and supply of the 18driverless INNOVIA vehicles, BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 650 automatic traincontrol, power supply and distribution and communications systems;and the OMSF; as well as project management, systems engineering andintegration, and test and commissioning.Weitz Construction, as the prime subcontractor to Bombardier, andgeneral contractor of the project, will be responsible for all of theE&M installation, including the construction of the OMSF. Weitz willemploy a team of local Phoenix area contractors led by SuntecConcrete and Wilson Electric Services Corp., which are bothexperienced in airport construction. Suntec Concrete, a civilconstruction company, will provide the civil running surface,guidebeam installation and mechanical installation. Wilson ElectricServices Corp. will provide the electrical installation of the E&Mwork.
