As a nation, Americans have become increasingly dependent on Wi-Fi. According to a , 60% can't go one full day without Wi-Fi access before seeking a connection and three in ten can't go one full hour without connectivity. For many fans, going to a basketball or football game has become much more than merely watching their favorite team. Many fans seek a fast connection to share their experience with friends on social media, look up the stats of their favorite players and browse the web. As wefi's data shows, not all stadiums are created equal -- and fans don't give all their attention to the game.
wefi found that the Brooklyn Nets' Barclays Center (NBA) offers the fastest Wi-Fi and cellular connections, averaging 5.09 and 3.66 Mbps, respectively. When it comes to NFL stadiums, the rivalry between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks didn't end with the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship game in January 2014. The 49ers' brand new Levi's Stadium delivers the fastest Wi-Fi in the league, averaging 4.68 Mbps; the Seahawks' CenturyLink Field tops cellular connection speeds, averaging 2.90 Mbps.
These connections are used to support top consumer apps -- wefi's data shows these to include Verizon Messages, Snapchat, ESPN Fantasy Football, Facebook, Instagram and Yahoo! Fantasy Football amongst the most utilized (based on average screen time per user in minutes).
