Milken Institute Names Paul H. Irving Chairman of New Center for the Future of Aging

(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/13/15 -- The Milken Institute today announced the creation of the and named Paul H. Irving as its chairman. Irving, who previously served as the Institute's president, is a nationally recognized thought leader in the field and has led the Institute's work to improve lives and strengthen societies by promoting healthy, productive and purposeful aging.

"Paul has pioneered our path in this important area, and he will be leading our efforts to build on this exciting foundation through the Center for the Future of Aging. I also want to thank Paul for his years of distinguished service as president of the Institute."

In addition to his new role at the Institute, Irving has been appointed distinguished scholar in residence at the University of Southern California Davis School of Gerontology, the oldest and largest school of its type in the world.

Irving is the author of "" (Wiley, 2014) and his work is regularly featured in major media outlets. Under Irving, the Institute launched its "" initiative -- a report, index and data site that evaluate and rank U.S. metropolitan areas based on amenities, infrastructure, and opportunities for engagement for older adults. In his writing and frequent speaking engagements, Irving has highlighted the opportunities and challenges arising from the changing demographic landscape and our new longevity economy. He was honored with the Janet L. Witkin Award by Affordable Living for the Aging in 2014.

Irving serves on the board of East West Bancorp, Inc., and as vice chairman of the board of Encore.org. He is a member of the Dean's Council of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University, the Board of Councilors of the USC Davis School, the Advisory Board of the Stanford University Distinguished Careers Institute, the Advisory Council of the Global Coalition on Aging, and Partners for Livable Communities' National Advisory Board on Aging. He is a director-elect of the American Society on Aging. Irving served as an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, where he received the Board of Governors Award for outstanding contributions to society and the law. Prior to joining the Institute, Irving was an advanced leadership fellow at Harvard University and chairman and CEO of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, a law and consulting firm.
