Lessons Encourage Creativity, Imagination and Innovative Student Learning Experiences

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 07/21/11 -- , the leading K-12 global community for creating, sharing, and finding open learning resources, and the (LCI), today announced that LCI's Imagination lessons, built upon LCI's framework for student learning, will be freely available to the global Curriki educator community. The announcement was made today by Scott Noppe-Brandon, Executive Director, Lincoln Center institute at , held at Lincoln Center where representatives from across the country are discussing ideas to revitalize American education.

The Imagination lesson plans are based on LCI's inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning, and are designed to integrate the ELA Core Content Standards with learning experiences that evoke creativity, imagination, and innovation. They are rooted in the study of works of art and employ four key concepts: art-making, questioning, reflection, and contextual information and research.

"We're excited to put LCI's innovative lesson plans into the hands of teachers to show that imagination learning is doable, practical and beneficial," said Kim Jones, executive director, Curriki. "Not only do these lessons incorporate core ELA standards, they encourage students to use critical thinking skills, unleash creativity, and think 'outside the box' so that we can bring personalization to the learning process and put imaginative thinking at the forefront of our school curricula."

"Today, imaginative thinking is as critical to career success as a college degree," said Scott Noppe-Brandon, director, Lincoln Center Institute for the Arts in Education. "Teaching students to examine a work of art, bring their own experience to it, and take away a new awareness and original ideas prepares them for a world that demands, and thrives on, innovation and ingenuity."

More than 43,000 learning resources are available on Curriki and are free to educators in the U.S., as well as to educators around the world in countries like India, Africa, and Australia which all have large member bases in Curriki.
