"This is not a program that promises attendees will get rich; it's for those who are nearing or at retirement age and want to feel confident in their golden years," says Lopez, a mathematics and computer science major who has applied his analytical mind to finances since 1986. In recent years, his focus has been in solving retirement challenges.
"The kind of money retirees want to spend each year for a comfortable lifestyle tends to be about $60,000, which means someone's nest egg would have to be $1.5 million for that rate of withdrawal to sustain for 25 years."
Lopez and members of his team will cover a number of important income issues for locals who are at or near retirement, including some of the serious mistakes that are typical in retirement-income planning, tips for making a retirees money go further and how the counsel of a retirement expert may yield the nest egg so many hope for during their earning years.
"We are approaching a possible crisis of epidemic proportions for current and future retirees; we are also experiencing a deluge of adults reaching retirement age now that includes 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 every day," says Lopez, who notes the additional costs of retirement, including legacy interests and the likelihood of needing long-term medical care.
By 2030, nearly one in five Americans will be of retirement age, according to Pew Research Center, "which is another reason why it's crucial for this country's retirees to be financially secure," he says.
