(firmenpresse) - Brandenburg is a sought-after business location. Last year, ZukunftsAgentur Brandenburg (ZAB) supported 114 new investment projects, 310 innovation projects and 63 technology-oriented start-ups. These projects, with a total investment volume of €824m, created 3,032 jobs. The investment volume was double the 2013 level. The region’s business clusters attracted as much as 96 per cent of the new investments, 84 per cent of the innovation projects and 100 per cent of the technology-oriented start-ups. These figures underscore the success of ZAB’s cluster strategy for business development.

The merging of ZAB’s structures for business and workforce support in early 2014 has paid off. The new department, named “ZAB Arbeit”, provided consulting services to 1,226 companies and 1,965 employees in the past year on topics such as workforce qualifications, further training, working environments and parental leave. Moreover, the website www.zab-arbeit.de attracted growing numbers of visitors: the pages devoted to workforce qualifications, for example, drew more than 90,000 visitors, an increase of 30 per cent over the previous year.

Albrecht Gerber, Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, stated, “Brandenburg’s economy has enjoyed impressive growth since the foundation of the state twenty-five years ago. The region is now a leader in productivity and growth among the East German states. The unemployment rate is close to the West German average. In 2014, Brandenburg again attracted numerous investments. The decision to primarily support companies in key sectors and in business clusters had a beneficial impact on both jobs and growth. ZAB’s annual results reflect this positive development. We supported high-value projects that strengthen the region’s business structure, so that Brandenburg can compete with other business locations internationally.”

Dr Steffen Kammradt, CEO of ZukunftsAgentur Brandenburg, stated, “2014 was a successful year for Brandenburg’s business development. Every second job in the projects supported by ZAB accounted for by the industry. Concerning total investment the industrial projects take even a share of two thirds. Behind this are important new businesses and companies expansions. We supported projects throughout the region. Among the companies operating new facilities in Brandenburg are MV Pipe Technologies, a fire safety specialist in Wittenberge, and Proseat, the Canadian auto parts supplier with a new plant in Schwarzheide. Also important are the expansion investments by ZF in Brandenburg an der Havel, Takeda in Oranienburg, and Classen in Baruth. Moreover, SAP’s second innovation centre in Potsdam and Clinton’s logistics and European headquarters in Hoppegarten contribute to the region’s profile as a high-value business location. Last but not least, a number of innovative SMEs also invested in the region. I particularly appreciate the fact that businesses value the new services we have developed to promote jobs, further training, and access to a qualified workforce. For SMEs and international businesses alike, the availability of a qualified workforce remains crucial. Brandenburg is the first German state to offer a full range of personnel consulting services to companies and employees. Moreover, the region has developed a flourishing start-up landscape: with 63 new technology-oriented start-ups, we also achieved excellent results in that domain in 2014.”

ZAB’s advances over the past two years
2013 -2014
