Ericsson redefines network control and analytics
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
* Combines SDN with Network Management, Policy Control, User Data Management
and Analytics to create and integrated control layer for network and cloud
* Pioneering model increases efficiency and enables faster service deployments
through network programmability
* Exposes user and network insights to improve network performance and user
experience
Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is pioneering a new model for network control that will
increase efficiency of the operator infrastructure by enhancing network
programmability. This should lead to faster service deployments, reduced costs
for operators and an improved user experience. The redefined common control
plane for the network and cloud is augmented with real time user and network
analytics and correlated insights from a consolidated user data base.
Caroline Chappell, Principal Analyst for Heavy Reading says: "There are large
cost saving and revenue generating advantages to telcos from consolidating their
sources of network data, using such data intelligently to drive operational
automation and exposing it for monetization purposes. Bringing together all the
components that support such a strategy, including a big data and analytics
platform, network management, NFV orchestration, SDN and policy control is
inherently difficult, so an integrated solution is of great interest to the
market."
Jan Häglund, Vice President and Head of Product Area Network Analytics &
Control, Ericsson, says: "By enabling the network control layer to draw on a
richer set of information than has been traditionally done, we are equipping
service providers to offer real time adaptation to consumer, business and
application needs"
We focus on three things as part of this redefinition. Consolidation of user
and network information and network resources; Automation, not just of service
configurations but also of the network's response to changing conditions;
Exposure of user and network analytics and insights and the various capabilities
that the network can offer to be an application development platform".
Operators will be able to benefit from this new model by increased efficiency of
operations driven by automation and the reduction in fragmentation of
information and network resources. The innovation driven by the exposure of
network capabilities for collaborative development of new services and
applications and the improved agility in launching of new services will
contribute to new revenue opportunities.
Ericsson Network Control and Analytics portfolio combines SDN capabilities with
the Ericsson Network Manager (ENM), Service Aware Policy Controller (SAPC) and
the User Data Consolidation (UDC) to create and integrated control layer for
network and cloud
