Minister Blaney Applauds the Conviction of Both Individuals Accused in Via Rail Terrorist Plot

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 03/20/15 -- Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement after an Ontario Superior Court jury returned guilty verdicts in the trial of two individuals charged with multiple terror-related offences following a foiled train derailment plot.
"I applaud the jury's verdict and welcome the court's decision in this disturbing case. This trial has once again demonstrated that the threat of terrorism is real.
Canada must continue to prepare to face this global threat with modern tools and legislation.
Currently in committee, Bill C-51, the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, is designed to help authorities stop planned attacks, criminalize the promotion of terrorism, and prevent terrorists from travelling and recruiting others."
