Crowdfunding Campaign Initiated on Indiegogo to Support a New Era of Low Cost, Eco-Friendly Cloud Computing Services
(firmenpresse) - MILAN, ITALY -- (Marketwired) -- 04/01/15 -- , an Italian-based Internet service provider, today announced that a crowdfunding campaign has been initiatied on to support the development of the world's first outdoor datacenter based on RuggedPOD. Working to meet the growing demand for data and hosting infrastructures, Enter is supporting the innovative outdoor computing project as a solution to the growing demand for cloud providers to build new datacenters, year after year, which consume increasing amounts of energy for power and cooling.
Following two years of research and development, the outdoor datacenter project is now entering its development phase. With strong support from Enter, the data center will be used to offer cloud servers starting at just $1.50 U.S. dollars per month.
RuggedPOD is a revolutionary modular computer chassis that introduces a new, more efficient way to provide cloud computing services. As a result, it will initiate a new era of low cost virtual machines. Designed featuring a computer chassis that is built in aluminium and filled up with organic dielectric oil, RuggedPODs' electronic components go directly inside the oil. As such, it doesn't require any active cooling solutions, like air conditioners or humidity controllers. Its cooling technology is simply open air. This opens up the possibility to build eco-friendly, easy to implement datacenters that are based on standard electronic devices, without the need for active cooling or special location, ideal for open source projects.
The RuggedPOD project was started in France by an international team including Jean-Christophe Volkaerts, Jean-Marie Verdun, Jean-Jacques Chanut, Farshia Kamaloudine, Maxime Terras and Sabrina Colautti. It is supported by the Open Compute Project Community.
