(firmenpresse) - LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwired) -- 04/03/15 -- In January, the Big Brothers Big Sister of Northern New Mexico merged with its partner program, the BBBS of Southwestern New Mexico, to become the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region. Together they are now serving more than 1,000 local kids and their families by connecting at-risk youngsters with caring adults, following the spirit of the American-wide organization, which was founded in 1904. Celebrating its 110th anniversary this year, BBBS continues to follow its goal of positively impacting children and teenagers facing adversity and putting them onto the right track in life. Dedicated volunteers provide invaluable services, while the administrative work is covered by crucial donations from individuals, among them philanthropist , who has long been a notable contributor to the honorable mission.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region offers the organization's classic community-based and school-based mentoring, which pair up "Littles" with "Bigs", granting them an opportunity to get to know each other and develop a trusting relationship, as well as tailor-made strategies for children coming from different walks of life. These are special groups geared towards African-American, Hispanic, and Native American families and to boys and girls who have a parent that is incarcerated or in the military. Stanley Tomchin praises this thoughtful approach: "New Mexico is a very diverse state, where people come from a variety of social and ethnical backgrounds. These unique initiatives make sure every kid is matched up with a suitable brother or sister from their own community, who understands their circumstances, acts as a role model, gives guidance, helps them to gain more self-confidence and motivates them to reach their full potential."

Tomchin's opinion is based on first-hand experience, considering that he has been a Big Brother for more than ten years himself, a journey, he says, that has been more gratifying and inspiring than he ever dreamed possible: "My main reason for joining BBBS was to help a boy in a difficult situation, to create a stable environment for him and to give him a chance to have a happy childhood. Meanwhile, I have been enjoying spending time with him tremendously! I feel this little guy has really enriched my life and opened up new perspectives on life for me." Together with more than 250,000 volunteers in states across the entire country, Tomchin plans fun activities with his little brother every week, from playing sports to going to the movies, from hanging out in the park to chatting over a slice of pizza -- all while shaping his future for the better.

Alongside his younger sister, Joy, has been actively involved in a great many charitable organizations for decades, and together they have been collaborating to support causes they believe in for many years. Beneficiaries of Tomchin's generosity include the GMHC, the IDEAL School in New York City, the Three Square Food Bank, the Community Action Fund for Women in Africa, and international organizations fostering environmental protection, namely Greenpeace and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. In addition to his past involvement with the Las Vegas-based Marty Hennessy Jr. Tennis Foundation and his mentoring role for BBBS, Tomchin now frequently spends time with the children of the "I Have a Dream" Foundation in an effort to provide them with guidance, teach them discipline, and encourage them to work for their goals. The Foundation's Executive Director Lindsay Harper has expressed her gratitude for his contributions: "Mr. Tomchin's dedication to empowering and uplifting children is inspiring. His support of the 'I Have a Dream' Foundation allows each child in our model to reach their full potential. Mr. Tomchin not only gives financial support, he also engages in meaningful ways with our students and lets them know how much he cares!"
