Whittier Law School to Host Assisted Reproductive Technologies Symposium on April 17

(firmenpresse) - COSTA MESA, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/15 -- Whittier Law School will host a day-long symposium on April 17th, The event explores Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) from legal, medical, ethical, and international viewpoints.

The event will bring in world-renowned experts in a variety of areas including fertility medicine, legal bioethics, and mental health to discuss the legal and ethical implications of assisted reproduction, including topics such as in-vitro fertilization, egg donation, artificial insemination, and gestational surrogacy. Students from any university with a valid Student ID may attend the event free of charge, and reduced attendance fees are offered for Whittier Law School alumni. The symposium is eligible for up to 6.5 Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credits for practicing attorneys in California. Event is sponsored by the and the Journal of Child and Family Advocacy at .

The symposium will provide an opportunity to bring together world-class speakers and experts on assisted reproductive technologies for the benefit of law students, attorneys and ART professionals who are interested in this highly complex practice area. The event will also provide a valuable forum for those considering assisted reproductive technologies to start a family. Topics to be discussed include a medical perspective on ART techniques; an introduction of available ART resources; establishing the parentage of ART-conceived children; bioethics in ART; and international law regarding ART.

, who teaches at both Whittier Law School and the UCI School of Medicine, will serve as keynote speaker for the event. Professor Daar has spoken and written extensively about the challenges of legislating new advances in reproductive technology and the bioethics of advanced reproductive medicine. She is the author of Reproductive Technologies and the Law, a comprehensive book that covers legal precedent and opinion on ART topics from sex selection to stem cell usage.
