Sweating is a kind of the body's air condi-tioning system and contributes to the maintenance of the body’s temperature. However, several million people in UK are suffering from very excessive sweating not only in summer or during activities. Sweating is a physiological process that is important during physical ac-tivities or heat. Some people respond to mental stress with excessive sweating. Then the approximately two million sweat glands discharge a watery secretion. Due to the rapid evaporation of sweat the heat of the body is extracted and thus protected from overheating. With this body's air conditioning the temperature can be kept constant at about 37° C. The body can produce about several liters per day. The normal sweating is also an important cleaning process for the elimination of waste and tox-ins. Furthermore it increases the circulation of the body.
Excessive sweating as an indicator of a disorder in the organism
Excessive sweating can be a symptom of a disorder in the organism or a disease. This is known as a secondary hyperhidrosis. Possible causes may be: exhaustion, overexertion, disturbances in the mineral content, circulatory disorder and obesity. Also hyperthyroidism, diseases of the lymphatic system, tumors and infections with fever may be associated with excessive sweating. Paroxysmal sweating is also typical for hormo-nal changes during the menopause. Side effects of medications can also cause excessive sweating.
Excessive sweating caused by an overproduction of sweat glands
A primary hyperhidrosis is caused by a pathological overproduction of sweat glands. This cannot be influenced mentally. The increased sweat production is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Feet, hands, torso and axles are most commonly affected, because there the concen-tration of sweat glands is very high. For the affected people it is a great suffering. They often avoid social contacts because they fear sweat stains under the axles, unpleasant body-odor or wet hands. Wet hands can also be a handicap in different occupations.
Iontophoresis system Sudormed 1200 as gentle drug-free help by ex-cessive sweating
With the iontophoresis system Sudormed 1200 of DAVITA® the sweat production can be normalized again. The affected parts of the body such as hands and feet are put into two plastic trays filled with tap water. With the help of flexible electrodes and the very durable connection cables a gentle harmless current is passed through the water of the trays. By this method the nervous impulses which are responsible for the sweating will be regulated. It is possible to treat hands and feet simultaneously. The treatment under the axles can be carried out with special axles electrodes with sponge. The device can be operated with an especially effective DC or gentle pulse current. The unit can be used with accumulators or batter-ies. Within a few days the sweating can be normalized again. The therapy duration should be 20 minutes every day. In order to maintain the therapy success an application of one or two times per week is enough.
The high quality medical device is small, handy and safe to use. There-fore it is well suited for the use while travelling. The control unit and the flexible electrodes can be combined with any plastic trays.
