(firmenpresse) - ASHLAND, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/22/15 -- The announces that volunteer, Joanne Brown, has been honored with the 2015 Salute to Excellence Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Award in the Northeast Region by the National 4-H Council. The "Salute to Excellence" Award is bestowed each year to the volunteer in each region of the country who has dedicated more than 10 years of their life to working with youth and exhibits exceptional commitment and contributions to 4-H and the community.

Brown was chosen for the award over candidates nominated from across 13 states in the northeast. She received a customized plaque, a donation in her name to the 4-H Club of her choice and nationwide recognition from the National 4-H Council. The award qualifies her as a finalist to win the Salute to Excellence National Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer Award.

"4-H Youth Development is very fortunate to have a volunteer with the dedication, drive and leadership that Joanne brings to the organization," said Laurie Flanagan, executive director at the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation. "The Salute to Excellence Award is 4-H's highest honor to its volunteers, and few are more deserving than Joanne Brown."

Brown has been an active volunteer for the Massachusetts 4-H Youth Development program for more than 27 years. She was originally a very active 4-H youth member, participating in projects focused on leadership and community services, among other areas. As a 4-H youth, she was a National 4-H Congress and Congress National Achievement Winner, a recipient of the 4-H Key Award, and a participant in the National 4-H Conference. As a 4-H volunteer, she has held numerous leadership roles at the local, county and state/district levels and been a major contributor to a diverse range of community projects, encouraging members to participate.

Through her volunteer work with Massachusetts 4-H Youth Development, Brown has served as a mentor and positive role model to club members, encouraging them to become active members of the community and ambassadors for positive citizenship. She works with the Nifty Needles and Mass Maniacs 4-H clubs in Wakefield.

Emily Oneschuk, a member in Brown's 4-H club, stated, "Joanne has had a larger impact on me than anyone in my life, including my parents. My parents were there to support me, but without Joanne's guidance and initiative I wouldn't have any of the traits that make me unique. Fortunately, I had her to guide me through adolescence and help shape me into the person I am today."
