Harper Government Announces Clean Technology Projects Across Canada

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 07/28/11 -- Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Joe Oliver, today announced an investment of $53 million in clean technology through Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC). The investment, from SDTC's SD Tech Fund™, includes 17 new clean technology projects across Canada in the areas of agriculture, transportation, mining and energy.
"Through our support for cutting-edge clean energy technology we are creating high-quality jobs and protecting our environment," said Minister Oliver. "These projects demonstrate our leadership in driving technology innovation to help create a vibrant clean energy industry in Canada."
Minister Oliver also highlighted that the Next Phase of Canada's Economic Action Plan (Budget 2011) is providing an additional $40 million over two years to Sustainable Development Technology Canada. This funding will continue to support the development and demonstration of more clean technology projects through the SD Tech Fund™.
"The benefits of clean technologies for Canadians are clear. However, the impact of innovation comes through commercialization: only when R&D reaches the market does it begin delivering results," said Vicky Sharpe, SDTC President and CEO. "By helping promising clean technologies like the ones joining our portfolio today reach the market faster, SDTC is ensuring that Canadians can enjoy their economic and environmental benefits sooner." "The SD Tech Fund™ helps create viable clean energy industries by moving ideas from R&D to demonstration and then to market commercialization," said Minister Oliver.
Sustainable Development Technology Canada's SD Tech Fund™ has supported more than 220 projects and allocated $548 million, generating more than $1.3 billion in leveraged funds.
