Newport Academy's Founder and CEO Jamison Monroe Jr. and 'Death Over Dinner' Founder Michael Hebb Are Taking the Conversation About Drugs out of the Shadows and Bringing It to Your Dinner Table
(firmenpresse) - NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/06/15 -- In a recent appearance, Founder and CEO announced the launch of his latest culture-shifting project, . Drugs Over Dinner is a not for profit, online, interactive platform that is designed to inspire millions, while providing them with the essential tools needed to have an authentic and compassionate conversation about drugs and addiction over dinner.
With Drugs Over Dinner, Monroe has aligned with Co Founder , Angel Grant, The , and an amazing cohort of in the fields of drug abuse, addiction, treatment, policy and mental health including Ariana Huffington, Gabor Mate, Dr. Carl Hart, Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles, and many more.
Jamison Monroe Jr. said, "With Drugs Over Dinner, our goal is to inspire 1 million people to convene, break bread and discuss this critical topic. Unless we change everything about the conversation, the stigma, death, and destruction associated with addiction will simply not change." Monroe continued, "This is a chance for everyone -- 8 to 80 years old -- to engage in an open dialogue that I hope brings empathy and understanding to the face of addiction."
Building upon the success of Michael Hebb's wildly successful project, , and utilizing it as the blueprint, Drugs Over Dinner is refocusing the conversation and putting the emphasis on drugs and addiction. While it is clear that America needs to reframe its conversation (policy, treatment models, attitude) about drugs and addiction -- the war on drugs has been a profound failure, but what do we do now?
Michael Hebb offered, "One thing our culture does well is: produce a lot of drug addicts. One thing it doesn't do well: convene people around the dinner table and engage in difficult conversation. We've forgotten how to eat together." Hebb continued, "If we can connect and convene around those difficult issues, then perhaps it starts to make a shift in how we think about addiction and treat it, and how we treat addicts and how we talk to our kids."

We want to change these numbers:
23 million Americans aged 12 or older need treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem. Only 11% percent receive it.
Every day in the US, 2,500 youth abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time.
As of 2011 more Americans now die from drug overdoses than in car accidents.
Change starts with open conversation. Change almost always starts at the table. This is a conversation for kids, parents, those in recovery, those still in the grip of addiction, people that have never taken a drug, folks that are passionate about the healing nature of substances, citizens that are interested in policy reform, even people who want the status quo to remain. It is our goal to inspire a million people within the next year to gather around the table and share a compassionate conversation about drugs and addiction.
Drugs Over Dinner is a toolkit to plan, host and moderate a conversation about drugs and addiction. We have gathered thoughtful and compelling homework and resources for your guests.
Recognized internationally as one of the addiction field's youngest and most prolific agents of change, Jamison Monroe Jr. began with a vision for advanced adolescent treatment and quickly built , which has grown from a single facility in Southern California to one of the most respected treatment brands in the country, with inpatient adolescent treatment facilities open in multiple locations. The next step for Monroe is a vast overhaul of the entire treatment paradigm and that evolutionary shift starts with a simple conversation over dinner.
