Delivering Better Design Technically and Aesthetically: Key Focus of Design Forum, June 17-18

(firmenpresse) - ARLINGTON, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/29/15 -- Lean Construction Institute, in collaboration with Project Production Systems Laboratory (P2SL) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), is bringing the design community together June 17-18 for its annual Design Forum in Chicago, IL.
The LCI/P2SL/AIA Design Forum is a must-attend event for today's designers. In addition to earning 10 AIA Health, Safety and Welfare credits, participants will hear from top industry leaders on delivering better design while furthering the mission to eliminate construction waste through project lifecycles, and increase construction industry demand and capacity for Lean and Integrated approaches. Lean Design and other collaborative techniques can contribute to better designs, both technically and aesthetically.
While much of the emphasis on Lean Construction has been focused on achieving more predictable schedules and budgets, Keynote speaker Renée Cheng, Professor, School of Architecture, University of Minnesota, will discuss how collaborative practices also support highly aspirational design goals.
"In my recent research of three General Services Administration (GSA) high-performing buildings, all three met or exceeded budget, schedule and technical standards," he said. "But perhaps most importantly, they all achieved very high design goals, as evidenced by each winning Top Ten Awards by AIA's Committee on the Environment."
How exactly did collaborative delivery ensure that design was better? "Teams developed mutual trust and respect that allowed them to use potentially risky processes, such as value engineering, to increase the value of the project," he said. "Teams consistently aligned their personal and enterprise agendas around the project goals, including both design and building performance aspirations."
