Wärtsilä Corporation, Trade press release, 1 June 2015 at 10 am EET

The second edition of Wärtsilä's Encyclopedia of Ship Technology is to be
launched at the Nor-Shipping exhibition and conference being held in Oslo,
Norway from June 2 to 5. The publication provides definitions to the current
terminology used in the marine industry's technical vocabulary. It is intended
as a means to pass on Wärtsilä's experience and know-how in this field, not only
to the current community of experts but also to future generations of maritime
professionals. It is being offered free of charge.

The encyclopedia is part of Wärtsilä's ongoing industry support programme aimed
at helping current and future marine engineers, architects, and other industry
specialists. It also provides valuable assistance to anyone reviewing the
shipbuilding trends that are moving the industry forward.

The company's support to maritime sector students is also shown in its donations
to technical learning institutions. For example, in 2011, Wärtsilä donated a
diesel engine, reduction gear, PTO and controls to the S.U.N.Y. (State
University of New York) Maritime College. In that same year, a controllable
pitch propeller and shafting system was donated to the United States Merchant
Marine Academy, and in 2013 an engine was donated to Camosu College in Victoria,
BC, Canada. Last year, Wärtsilä donated a Wärtsilä 20 engine to the Nelson
Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in South Africa. This latter donation was
part of the company's long-term sponsoring partnership with the South Africa
International Maritime Institute (SAIMI).

"The success of the first edition of the Encyclopedia of Ship Technology
encouraged us to make the effort to follow up with this latest version that
includes terminology relating to the very latest technological developments.

This work was made possible by a dedicated team of Wärtsilä subject area
experts. It is appropriate that the launch of this publication is being made at
Nor-Shipping, since Wärtsilä is using this forum to launch a series of its
latest innovations," says Jaakko Eskola, Senior Executive Vice President &
President, Ship Power, Wärtsilä Corporation.
