“Lights on!” in the former VEB Leuchtenbau factory in Meerane
IBUg project (Industriebrachenumgestaltung) finds domicile for exhibition
What began as an experiment in 2006 is now taking place for the fourth time in West Saxon Meerane; in the IBUg project national and international Graffiti and Street artists transform empty factory buildings into a complete artwork.
(firmenpresse) - This year the IBUg will make use of the former VEB Leuchtenbau lampshade factory which is situated near the city center of Meerane (Poststraße 58) and it will literally turn the light on in the old factory ruins.
Graffiti, Street art and installations are the artistic forms of expression – the artists are from Germany and Europe. To them belong for example Rough from the UK, Loomit or emil one, all of them are famous in the scene, “who understand it to play and experiment with the still existing conditions like old installations, engine parts, cable harnesses, windows and the particular architecture”, says Graffiti artist Tasso from Meerane, the creative mind behind IBUg.
From mid-August he and other artists will once again breathe new life into the former lampshade factory and present the result of the roughly 14-Day transformation to the general public in a big vernissage from August 28 to August 30 in 2009. The aim is to raise the visitors’ awareness of the symbiosis of art, culture and architecture and to arouse interest for alternative forms of expression.
About IBUg
The IBUg 2009 is an urban culture event with the purpose to give the general public an understanding of Graffiti, Street art and installations and to establish it as an independent form of art. The IBUg 2009 represents a unique forum of the artistic work and the presentation of the creative work of the participating artists. The support of art and culture – especially urban art – is one of the most important goals of the IBUg. New styles shall be developed in free artistic work and be customized to a general public. The IBUg sets exemplarily impulses in an area that is characterized by unemployment, obsolescence and few cultural offerings.
