2015 Taskworld Annual Review Survey Shows U.S. Employees Feel Reviews Serve as a Distraction From More Important Tasks

(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 07/23/15 -- , the only task management platform with performance analytics, announces today the results of its 2015 Annual Review Survey looking at if annual employee reviews provide valuable feedback and increase productivity. The survey found that 55 percent of the workforce view in-person reviews as time that should be spent on more important work-related tasks.

Key findings in the study dig deeper into how most employees feel reviews disrupt their productivity at work and also how many workers aren't satisfied with the feedback they receive. Eighty percent of workers surveyed say it takes nearly half the workweek to prepare for in-person evaluations -- time they say should be spent working on more important projects. Additionally, nearly 50 percent of those respondents say evaluations do not provide constructive suggestions on how to improve.

"Our study proves employees are often left in the dark when it comes to their personal performance and growth within a company, which leads to days of preparation prior to reviews and distractions from projects that should be their main focus," Taskworld CEO Fred Mouawad said. "Employers need to look at new ways to set expectations on a daily basis rather than waiting for annual or quarterly evaluation. This does not mean hold more in-person evaluations -- new digital platforms are providing the quick, objective feedback employees need to improve productivity and performance."

Additional findings from the report include:

Survey findings indicate more than half of the respondents are only evaluated once a year, leaving them to wonder where they stand in the company. An online collaboration platform can help eliminate that confusion by giving employees constant feedback on their strengths and weaknesses.

70 percent surveyed say their performance is only measured annually, with only 5 percent getting monthly feedback.

In-person evaluations typically look at an employee's performance over the course of several months. By consolidating months of work into a single conversation, it's easy to leave out specific examples that could be helpful to an employee's growth.

65 percent of workers surveyed say reviews would be more productive if they were given specific examples of their strengths and weaknesses on a consistent basis.
