The Western Canada Summer Games 2015 Wood Buffalo announced the beginning of Phase Two of competition today. The Western Canada Summer Games are the largest multi-sport event to ever be held in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and feature competition in 18 different sporting events. The 10 day Games, which began on August 7, will play host to 2,500 athletes from seven western and northern provinces/territories including British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

To date, athletes have entertained thousands of Wood Buffalo residents and visitors, competing in artistic gymnastics, basketball, beach volleyball, rowing, cycling, judo, tennis and wrestling. Phase two of competition will include a variety of sports such as badminton, baseball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming, triathlon and volleyball.

Currently, Team British Columbia leads the pack with 109 Game Points, followed closely by Team Alberta and Team Manitoba. Game Points are an equitable representation of overall sporting success per contingent used to score competing teams.

Phase One of the Games included five days of amateur sport with many exceptional events to showcase the diversity and culture of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Patrick Roberge Productions (PRP) produced a memorable Opening Ceremony presented by CNOOC Nexen, as well as a free community event, Big Sky Spirit, which was presented by Syncrude Canada. A second Big Sky Spirit event will be held in Phase Two, followed by the Closing Ceremony presented by CEDA.

Both Phases boast a variety of community events including Party at the Plaza, presented by Inter Pipeline Ltd, the Visitors Village presented by LIAM First, as well as many exhibits incorporating local art, music, theatre, cuisine and much more.
