Imtech participates in the Icos Cleantech Fund II
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Gouda, The Netherlands - Imtech N.V. (technical services provider in Europe)
announces that it will participate with the amount of 2 million euro in the Icos
Cleantech Fund II (Icos Cleantech Early Stage Fund II). The goal of the fund is
to financially support new initiatives that focus on turning 'green' technology
in the areas of energy, nutrition, recycling, water and construction into
economically productive developments.
Imtech's CEO René van der Bruggen: 'Imtech had already invested in the cleantech
fund ICF I. Early participation in sustainable technological development is
strategically important for us. On the one hand, this offers us the chance to be
involved in innovative cleantech developments. On the other hand, it is obvious
from ICF I that there is spin-off potential in the form of concrete orders, in
which Imtech provides the technical solutions for projects that result from our
participation. The acquired knowledge can again be used again in other projects,
especially those related to energy. This is a triple win. Furthermore, we can
also count on a good financial return on our investment.'
What is ICF II
ICF II is an initiative from Icos Capital, a Dutch investment firm that
specialises in clean technology ('cleantech'). Icos Capital has brought together
a consortium of listed industrial and technology corporations - Imtech, the BAM
Group and CSM - as well as the Delft University of Technology, to set up a new
investment fund for innovations in the area of clean technology that offers
solutions for the fight against the effects of climate change and the shortage
of natural resources. The alliances between these parties will provide ICF II
with access to global networks and enable use of a broad knowledge base.
Goal of ICF II
ICF II has as its goal to acquire a significant stake of fast-growing cleantech
companies that can use the fund's financial assistance to create independent and
economically competitive developments in 'green' technology in the areas of
energy, nutrition, recycling, water and construction. The fund has ample
resources and will not exceed 2.5 million euro per investment in several
fast-growing, mostly smaller, cleantech companies. Icos Capital, an independent
investor in cleantech with both years of experience in this particular sector
and a proven track record in cleantech investments, is managing the fund.
Building on ICF I
The new fund will build on the successes of ICF I (Icos Cleantech Early Stage
Fund I), in which both Imtech and CSM invested. Every year, more than 300
companies approach the ICF I fund wanting to participate. This provides the
opportunity to make only the best investments. The fund accordingly invests in
technologies that make it possible to change highly polluting residual streams
into energy, to create water out of wind and to divide the iron from copper in
scrap metal.
Number 1 in the TechnoPartner tender
ICF I and ICF II were named number 1 in the TechnoPartner tender organised by
the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs in both 2006 and 2010 by a panel of
entrepreneurs and expert fund managers.
