Leading Taiwan Industry to Join the World's Supply Chain
(firmenpresse) - TAIPEI, TAIWAN -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/15 -- In order to boost the international competitiveness of Taiwan's medical electronics industry, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) was commissioned to hold the "2015 Medical Electronics and Devices in Taiwan Forum (MEDiT)" during Nov. 3 and 4 at the Taipei International Convention Center. More than 100 global leading suppliers of medical electronics gathered to discuss major trends and developments of the industry. The Forum also provided opportunities of cooperation and mutual exchange among the participating companies.
Dr. Ming-ji Wu, Director General of Industrial Development Bureau, pointed out that according to the Business Monitor International, the worldwide sales of medical electronics totaled US$340.3 billion in 2014 and would reach US$405.3 billion in 2015. "Even though the world economy has been slow over the past few years, Taiwan's biotechnology industry still performed satisfactorily," Wu stated. He hoped the MEDiT 2015 could provide a venue for global medical electronics players to share opinions, and a cooperation platform which might lead to millions of business in the future.
Dr. Yio-wha Shau, General Director of ITRI's Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories, stressed that the medical electronics market in the next decade will be closely linked to population aging and personalized medicine, especially in the fields of intelligent healthcare and wearable devices. "Taiwan's medical electronics industry has accumulated many years' experience in cross-fields integration and ICT manufacturing," Shau added. With these advantages, Taiwan can cooperate with leading international medical electronics companies to build up sustainable business models and create win-win business opportunities.
For this event, Lyn Davies, Managing Director of Tunstall Healthcare Australia, gave a speech on "Tunstall's global connected care and connected health strategies -- Life saving, life changing models of care in the digital age." Maarten Buijs, Vice President of Research and Development Brachytherapy, spoke on "The challenge of increasing cancer incidence: Mobilizing the whole value to increase the cost effectiveness of radiation therapy." Other overseas participants included the surgery equipment supplier Ethicon, an affiliate of Johnson & Johnson, and Innovative Medical Device Initiative (IMDI). Local suppliers included Quanta Computer lnc., TaiDoc Technology Corporation, APEX Medical Corp., New Deantronics Ltd., and Yunglin.
