(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, D.C. -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/15 -- SETDA, the principal membership association of the U.S. state and territorial educational technology leaders honored Senator Tammy Baldwin (Wisconsin) as its 2015 Federal Policy Maker of the Year for her long support of digital learning opportunities in schools. The award was announced at the 2015 SETDA held in Arlington, Virginia on October 27. Selected by the SETDA Board of Directors, the federal policymaker award is given annually to a federal legislative leader who demonstrates a commitment to the future of education by supporting policy and funding for the effective use of technology for learning. Past winners have included U.S. Senators and Representatives who have worked across the political aisle in the best interest of children.

Senator Baldwin is a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee and co-sponsor of the Innovative Technology Expands Children's Horizon's (I-TECH) amendment, part of the Senate's Every Child Achieves Act of 2015. The I-TECH program would provide state education agencies direct funding to conduct state level grant programs for professional development to heighten the ability of teachers and school leaders to embrace technology, and to improve the college- and career-readiness of students.

"Senator Baldwin's support for technology to improve schools and student learning is critical for the future of education in our country," stated Lan Neugent, Interim Executive Director of SETDA. "We applaud her dedication and commitment to education and are gratified that she has acted to provide the resources and tools schools need."

In addition, Rick Gaisford, Educational Technology Specialist, Utah Department of Education and SETDA Board member shared, "The digital learning provision in Senator Baldwin's bill will help increase the opportunities for students in Utah and across the country to have personalized, engaging learning experiences. Supporting professional learning will assure that teachers can use digital resources effectively."
